Meet the Staff
![]() Saphonia has had a life-long passion for furthering the field of esthetics and increasing industry standards for her fellow estheticians in the Tidewater area. Believing that "Education is the key to your journey to healthy skin care," Saphonia Gee opened the Portsmouth campus of VAIE in 2002. VAIE was increasingly successful, opening a second campus in Virginia Beach, and attracting students from not only Virginia but the entire US as well. Saphonia now operates The Institute of Epidermal Cell Therapy located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Saphonia has her licenses from both North and South Carolina and is also a licensed instructor. Along with her certification in Paramedical Esthetics, she has certification for Nursing Assistance, and holds licenses for Makeup artistry, Repechage Education, Spa Consulting, Braiding, and Wax Instruction. She is also an International CIDESCO Diplomat a member of the Liaison for Skincare for the NIC. Contact ![]() As Director of Education, Rowena is a graduate of The Virginia Institute of Esthetics. As a result of her esthetics training and education at the institute she is a Licensed Master Esthetics Instructor. She possesses 8 years experience in the field of education. She has also experienced 10 years of sales and marketing in the skin care and cosmetics industry. As Director of Education, Rowena enjoys overseeing the operations of the institute assuring that the curriculum is meeting state board requirements as well as exceeding industry standards. The most rewarding aspect of her position as director is that she has the opportunity to meet with each new student to discuss their academic background, interest in the esthetics program and their goals for a career in the esthetics industry. Contact ![]() As Operations Assistant, Charni is responsible for assisting the Director of Education with the operational daily duties that are required to operate a state of the art facility. Her professionalism in dealing with staff as well as students promotes an environment that is not only efficient but offers an environment that is conducive for learning. ![]() Deborah Waters, President and Director of Education ![]() As a graduate of Old Dominion in Health and Physical Education, Juanita enjoys using her educational background, her experience in the classroom and her knowledge as a personal trainer to provide her students with a quality education that meets and exceeds industry expectations. Her experience teaching students of all ages has given her the skills necessary to build a rapport with her students that promotes the value and joy of learning. ![]() As a graduate of Old Dominion with degrees in Human Services Counseling and Psychology, Shonda enjoys using her educational background, her experience in the classroom and her knowledge as a personal trainer to provide her students with a quality education that meets and exceeds industry expectations. Her experience teaching students of all ages has given her the skills necessary to build a rapport with her students that promotes the value and joy of learning. |
